Woodrow B. Mashburn, Sr., 95, went home to his eternal reward on May 5, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family. A private graveside service will be held for his immediate family at Carbonton United Methodist Church Cemetery where Mr. Mashburn attended as a child.
Mr. Mashburn was born in Chatham County on February 26, 1925, the youngest child of the late Charlie and Martha Belle Taylor Mashburn. He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Becker Mashburn, an infant son Stephen Wayne Mashburn, and an infant granddaughter Laura Amanda Mashburn. He was also preceded by all of his siblings, brothers Howard and Julian Mashburn; sisters Bethel Mashburn, Sally Whitley, Tamar Morris, and Inez Bresse; half-brother Charles and Phillip Mashburn, and half-sister Mossie Yow.
Mr. Mashburn was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served in WWII. He was the last surviving crewmember of the original USS Holder. He was a founding member of the Seven Seas Club. He was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his second wife Mary Cummings Mashburn, two sons Woodrow Mashburn Jr. (Margaret) of Hartsville, SC and David Mashburn (Kathy) of Newburyport, MA; one daughter Melanie Wood (Don) of Sanford; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the Family requests that contributions be made to the Carbonton United Methodist Church, 5442 Goldston-Carbonton Rd, Goldston, NC.
