William Howard Phillips Jr

William Howard Phillips Jr, 82 of Sanford passed away surrounded by his family Saturday January 3, 2026. No services are planned at this time.

Howard was born in Lee County; he was the son of the late William Howard Phillips Sr.,

and Angie Mae Oldham Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Phillips. Howard was a graduate from UNC Chapel Hill with a BA in Psychology. He joined the military after graduating and served our country in the Army as part of the tactical response force. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle). After serving in the Army, Howard was employed by the Employment Security Commission in a Supervisory role until he retired.

Howard was an avid UNC fan of Carolina football and basketball, he loved the beach, reading, working in the yard and target shooting. He especially loved his wife Betty and his precious grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Hunsucker Phillips; sons, Brian Ingram (Lorie) and Robert Ingram (Shannon); grandchildren, James Ingram, William Ingram and Lauren Ingram; siblings, Johnsie Phillips and Greg Phillips.
