William Calvin Hayes

The Reverend Dr. William Calvin Hayes (Bill) of Sanford, NC, died Saturday, March 26, 2022.

Bill was born August 28, 1955, in Rock Hill, SC, and graduated from Westminster School there. He earned a bachelor's degree from Erskine College, in Due West, SC. and his Masters and Doctorate of Ministry degrees from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. During his career he faithfully served congregations in North Carolina at Wentworth Presbyterian Church, Smyrna Presbyterian Church and Edgewood Presbyterian Church, and in South Carolina at Hopewell Presbyterian Church before retiring in Sanford, NC. Bill was a man of deep faith and, through the ministries of Bill and his wife Sally, God touched many lives.

He is survived by his sister Alexa Hayes Spratt (Tom), brother-in-law Robert Hollis Williams, nephews, Robert Hollis Williams, Jr., Thomas B. Spratt, IV (Brandi), nieces Lera Williams Jackson (Steve), Elizabeth Hayes Spratt Cooper (Chris), 9 great nieces and nephews, and his special friend Pat Marion. In addition, he is survived by his brothers-in-law John Gardner, Bob Gardner (Donna), William Gardner (Debbie) and sister-in-law Sidney Gardner Parrish (Steve). He was preceded in death by his wife Sally Gardner Hayes, his parents Billy Drennan and Marcene Baker Hayes and his sister Olivia Hayes Williams.

Services will be held at Edgewood Presbyterian Church, Sanford, NC on April 9, 2022, with visitation in the fellowship hall at 1:00 and the memorial service at 2:00 pm.

On Sunday, April 10, 2022, a memorial service will also be held at First Presbyterian Church, Rock Hill, SC. at 2:00 pm.
