Thomas Monroe “Tom” Joyner, 85 of Sanford peacefully passed away Monday February 9, 2026.

Mr. Joyner was born in Davie Co, son of the late Gurney Joyner and Mary Renegar Joyner. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane Smith. Tom was a graduate of Courtney High School in 1958 and a graduate of Catawba College in 1965. Tom loved his family and never met a stranger. He enjoyed UNC Sprots, playing golf and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

The Joyner’s came to Sanford in 1971 with Coty and later retired as the General Accounting Manager. He took an active roll in everything he did. He co-chaired the building Committee for St Luke United Methodist Church, past Board Member and Treasurer of the St Luke Foundation, past Treasurer of St Luke United Methodist Church, member of the Kiwanis Club of Sanford, former Board Member and past President of the CCCC Foundation, former Board Member of the Lee County Enrichment Center, and a former Board Member and Treasurer of Lee County Industries.

Mr. Joyner is survived by his wife, Shirley Ward Joyner; sons, T. Christopher Joyner (Julie), and Greg Joyner (Melanie); granddaughters, Caroline Washburn (Daniel), Katelyn Andrews (Adam), and Krista Gragg (Austin); great grandchildren, Margaux Monroe Washburn, Finley Andrews, Waverly Andrews, and Maveryk Andrews; a niece, a nephew and a special cousin.
