Thelma Craig Gordon

Thelma Ellen Craig Thomas Gordon 97, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on July 9, 2021.

She was born November 29, 1923, to Fanny Kirby Craig and Charles Spurgeon Craig.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Perry Thomas and Albert Gordon; infant daughter Mary Lucinda Thomas; infant brother John Ruskin Craig; sister Geneva Seagroves; and brother Charles S. Craig Jr.

She leaves behind to mourn, her two daughters Diane Brooks (Mike) and Nancy Harris (Larry) who were her devoted caregivers for many years; sister Ruby C Thomas; grandsons Scott Matthews, Landon Hart, Craig Hart (Ann); great grandson Joseph Scott Matthews (Brianna); great great granddaughter Arcadia Matthews; step grandsons Larry Harris Jr. (April) and Lee Harris Jr.; and step great grandson Jody Harris (Jessica).

Thelma loved music, played piano by ear and had a beautiful singing voice even into her 90’s. She worked in the public for many years, but always seemed to find the time to have a vegetable and flower garden. She was also a talented seamstress and made many of her daughter’s clothes when they were in grammar school. The thing that she loved most was her family.

A special thank you to her wonderful caregivers over the many years: Debbie Morris, Linda Davis, Barbara Williams, Ovelma Williams and Levonda Farrar. Most recently, we are grateful for the dedication and kindness of the nurses, aides and staff with Liberty Hospice.

A graveside will be held at Meroney United Methodist Church, 10568 NC Hwy 902 in Chatham Co. on Tuesday July 13 at 11:00 am with pastors Jim Whittaker and Linda Yow officiating.

The family will receive friends and family at the graveside after the service and at other times in the home of Diane and Mike Brooks and Nancy and Larry Harris.
