Sarah Smith Curry

Sarah Smith Curry, of Sanford peacefully passed away Thursday August 13, 2026. Funeral services will held at 2:00pm Monday August 17, 2026, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Lemon Springs Methodist Church cemetery.

Born in Lee Co, Sarah was a daughter of the late Roderick Ernest Smith Sr and Charlotte Abbott Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, George B Curry Jr and children, Stephen B Curry, Dale F Curry, Paula Christine Curry, and Georgia Jill Curry; siblings, Mildred Vick (Don), Evelyn Phifer (Bill), Mary Diebler (Bud), Frances Gaines (Roy), Jimmy Smith, and Sonny Smith (Carolyn). Sarah graduated from UNCG and taught school for a brief period before marrying George. She was a longtime member of St Luke United Methodist Church, and sang in the Choir for many years, as well as singing for weddings. She loved spending time with her family and was affectionately known by her grandsons as “BaPa” and other family members as “Yay Yay”.

Surviving are her grandsons, Patrick Curry and Grant Curry (Paige); great grandson, Colt Curry; sister-in-law Lois Smith; many nieces and nephews and many special friends.

The family will receive friends at 1pm in the Ladies Parlor.
