Roberta Hunter Bunnell, 80, of Sanford passed away on Thursday August 21, 2025. Funeral services will be held on Monday August 25th at Poplar Springs United Methodist Church at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1-2pm before the service.
Roberta was born in Lee Co. to the late Rupert Hunter and Ruby Holder. She was a loving and caring person who was always doing for others. She enjoyed music, dancing, and being around people. She was a special aunt to all of her nieces and nephews, and mothered, loved and was a mentor to many children in our community.
Roberta was a special person and if you ever met her, you never forgot her. She was the “Queen” of the Swap Shop. She was instrumental in Floyd Knight School for kids with special needs, and the local Special Olympics.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children William “Bill” Bunnell and Amy Bunnell, and brothers Tommy Hunter, John Hunter, James Hunter, and Roland Hunter.
Mrs. Bunnell is survived by her daughter, Angela Bennett (Jeffrey); son Jason Bunnell; grandson, Jonathan Bennett; brother Joseph Hunter; sisters, Barbara Jackson, Blanche Womack, and Sue Heath; her extended family, Sharon Stone, her daughter Karen, and her children Miguel, Jennifer, Junior, Kayley and Joshua.
The family extends a special thanks to “Swap Shop Family,” John, Maragret, and Mike, and to the Sanford Health & Rehab for their support and loving care.
