Robert Howington

Robert Warren Howington Sr., 87, died Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Moore Regional after a short illness. Bob was born March 6, 1934, to William and Erma Howington in Wake Co., NC. He served in the military for 21 years and spent 13 months as a medic in Viet Nam where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Medic Award, and a Purple Heart. Retired from the Army, he earned his LPN and continued his nursing career at Southern Wake Hospital in Fuquay-Varina. He later “retired” to become a gentleman farmer, golfer, woodworker, and fisherman in Sanford. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and a sister. He is survived by Zelda, his beloved wife of 44 years, of Sanford and his sister, Phyllis Hobgood (Milton) of Cary. He is also survived by his children Bobby (Gail), Mike, Rick (Michelle), Tommy, Patty Scepurek (Dan), and Robin Johnson (David); stepchildren Susan Trent (Steve Ferrara), Janet Trent (Dargan Moore), Chip Trent (Valerie Patras), and Scott Trent (Kathie Cheng); 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Bob received an Honorary Life Membership at Pocket Church in Sanford where his memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 7 at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to Pocket Church (669 Pocket Church Rd, Sanford, NC 27330) or Euphronia Presbyterian Church (169 Euphronia Church Rd, Sanford, NC 27330).
