Ralph Dennis Larsen

Ralph Dennis Larsen, (85), went to his heavenly home on July 15th, 2025.

Ralph was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 8, 1939, to the late Carl and Anna (Andersen) Larsen. Ralph served in the Navy on the USS Essex. His family lived in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, where he owned a hardware store and home center. Ralph loved being involved with the Jaycees and the First Baptist Church. In 1981 he started working for the National Fire Safety Council, helping fire marshals and fire departments educate children in fire prevention and safety. He and his wife of 65 years (Susan), moved to Sanford, NC in 1986, where they continued their work with the Council. Ralph was very active in community affairs; on the Board of Habitat for Humanity, co-supervising home building projects, and leading a team at the Breadbasket. He was proud to be called a “geezer”, a group of older men who worked on the Habitat houses.

Ralph was blessed to have a close family and many friends. He is survived by his wife, Susan, and daughters Lisa (Andy) Reeder of Sanford, Lori (Ken) Hilts of Merrimac, MA, Diane Larsen, and Jennifer (David) Vaillancourt, of Sanford, six granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson. He is survived by a brother Dale (Sally) Larsen of CA, a sister Beata (John) Rydeen of MN, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on July 23rd, 2025 at 2:00 in the sanctuary of St. Luke UMC in Sanford. The family will receive friends after the service in the Parlor. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the following Sanford charities; Breadbasket, Habitat for Humanity, Christian United Outreach Center, or a charity of one’s choice.
