Peggy Carolyn Crissman Wilkie, 92 of Sanford peacefully passed away Friday June 26, 2026. Mrs. Wilkie was born in Moore County, daughter of the late Arthur Crissman and Mary Elizabeth Bryant Crissman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years Emory Claybourne “Squibb” Wilkie, brothers, Nathan, Frank, and JR Crissman and three sisters, Betty Jean Graham, Ina Maddox, Nonnie Mae Stone, and Myrtle C Walker.
Peggy loved spending time with all her family, especially her grandbabies. She was the protector of her entire family. She went out of her way to make sure her kids to grandkids had everything they needed to thrive. Anyone who knew Peggy knows that she never held back on giving her two cents. We all admired her work ethics and everyone who worked with her knew the strong will she brought with her. She was a force of a woman when women didn’t have a say. When she wasn’t letting you know her opinion she enjoyed going to church, dancing, cooking, reading, or gardening.
Mrs. Wilkie is survived by her daughters Theresa Wilkie Bray (Sean), Tandy Wilkie, Martha Wilkie, and Faith Wilkie Hagler; grandchildren Christopher D Thomas, Devon Bray, Jeron Bray, Crystal Mason Gaddy, Tristan Holt, Trent Holt, Travis Holt, Ammy Scott, George Hagler, and Airriann Hagler; great grandchildren Elijah Thomas, Sydney Thomas, Lilly Scott, Hunter Bray, Griffin Bray, Garret Gaddy, Riley Gaddy, Sawyer Gaddy and Evan Hagler; great-great grandchildren Amelia Thomas, Jordan Thomas, and Amara Thomas; brother in law, James Frederick Wicker
