Peggy Thomas Gaines

Peggy Ann Thomas Gaines, 82 of Sanford peacefully passed away Saturday April 11, 2026. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 pm Wednesday April 15th at First Baptist Church Chapel. The family will greet friends, at the Church, from 11:00 – 11:45 before the service.

Mrs. Gaines was born in Lee County, a daughter of the late Ernest Jasper Thomas, and Algay Burns Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Doyle Gaines and several brothers and sisters. Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church and retired from BB&T. She loved her family, her dogs, and was considered a family caregiver.

Mrs. Gaines is survived by her daughters, Lori Johnson (Steve), and Donna Patterson (Daniel); grandchildren Courtney Lee (Nick), Addison Johnson (Ashton), and Sydney Heckler (Ashlee); great grandchildren, Rylan Lee, Saylor Lee, and Hudson Heckler; sisters, Mary Upchurch (Avron), and Lois Key; step daughter, Caroline Gibbs (Phillip); step grandchildren, Matthew Gibbs and Shawn Gibbs.
