Peggy Crawford Catlette

October 21, 1942 — September 20, 2022

Peggy Crawford Catlette age 79 passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family.

Graveside services will be held at 5:00 pm Sunday at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was born October 21, 1942, to Mike and Muriel Strickland Crawford of Erwin, N.C.  Peggy attended and graduated Erwin High School in 1960.   She was a cheerleader and on the women’s basketball team. Peggy or otherwise called by her nickname “Mickie” after her father Mike, was voted as the Best Looking in her Senior Class for superlatives.  After graduation ‘Mickie’ attended Watts School of Nursing in Durham, N.C. and graduated in 1964.   While in nursing school at Watts, Mickie had to do her Psychiatric training at Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh. This is where she met the love of her life Gerald nicknamed “Jerry” who was working as an Orderly there.  As the story goes, All the Orderlies would watch the new nursing students walk in the lunchroom. Jerry said she was the prettiest nursing student he had ever seen, and this is where it began. A little humor over the years, the story of how they met would be told that Jerry was the patient and Mickie the nurse. Needless to say, the story got some laughs.  After graduating in 1964, Mickie and Jerry married and she began working at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, N.C.  In 1971, their daughter Christa Suzanne Catlette was born. She completed their family.  Mickie continued working at Wake Medical where she held various positions.  The last positon she held at Wake Medical was the manager of the ER. Mickie was instrumental in starting the Trauma Centers at Wake Med and the EMS for Wake County.  Mickie left Wake Medical in 1986 and briefly worked with the State of NC on the inspection team for the hospital’s trauma status. Later, she joined Physicians Immediate Care Center and managed their facilities.  She retired her nursing career at the Knightdale office where she loved to take care of her patients. Mickie loved with a BIG heart.  She was always taking her nursing career with her and would help anyone that was in trouble, be in restaurants, stores, at White Lake or wherever a person was in need. Everyone knew her door was wide open for advice.  She loved her family fiercely and always tried to protect them and keep them safe.  Her grandchildren Morgan and Landry were the apple of her eye.  She was known as “Ma C” to them.  She loved to watch them golf, ski and enjoyed meeting their friends. You could find Ma C curled up reading a new novel at home or at her happy place White Lake, N.C.  She loved doing crossword puzzles and could do them in record time. She was smart as a whip as the old saying goes.  She was a huge animal lover and loved all her pets over the years.  Her knowledge, presence and love will be greatly missed.  She was preceded in death by her Father Mike Crawford and Mother Muriel Strickland Crawford.

She is survived by her husband Gerald “Jerry” Catlette; daughter Christa Catlette McRae (Brian); granddaughter Morgan McRae, Grandson Landry McRae; sister, Charlotte Crawford Gunter; niece Camille Linton, nephew Michael Gunter; great niece Farris Linton and many cousins.
