Ora Lee Hickman

October 27, 1923 — May 7, 2017

Ora Lee Lemons Hickman, 93 of Sanford passed away Sunday May 7, 2017 after battling dementia for over seven years. Funeral services will be held at White Hill Presbyterian Church on Wednesday May 10, 2017 at 2pm.

She has gone to her forever home to be with The Lord where she has no more confusion or pain. She lived a very active life, always ready to do anything for family and friends. She loved her Church, White Hill Presbyterian, which her father, Hugh Lemons, helped build. She especially loved the yearly Harvest Sale every October, which would sometimes fall on her birthday, the 27th. She would cook chicken and broth to make chicken & dumplings sold along with hundreds of BBQ plates. She would also spend days making pies and cakes to be served with the plates and could be found at any given time behind the dessert bar cutting and wrapping all the deserts brought in. She worked for Cornell Dublier for many years in Sanford until the plant closed. She then transferred to the Fuquay Varina plant and commuted for several months until it also closed. Her other passion was working in the yard. From pulling weeds, raking leaves, trimming shrubs, digging ditches, to mowing the grass, it all had to be perfect. And, as if that was not enough, she walked every day and spent many afternoons canning vegetables for Sunday lunch. Her Sunday lunches after Church were more like a family reunion than it was lunch. We will truly miss her but rejoice in the memory of all the wonderful times we shared with her. She was very proud of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hickman is survived by her three children, James Hickman and wife

Barbara, Patsy Taylor and husband Harry, and Charles Anthony Hickman all of Sanford; one sister, Kathleen Baker of Sanford; five grandchildren, Kevin Taylor (Jenny), Jeremy Taylor (Teresa), Candice Hickman, Taylor Hickman, and Chris Hickman (Allison); great grandchildren, Sydney Taylor, Drew Taylor, Maelyn Taylor, Logan Hickman, Aubrey Hickman, Cole Hickman, Liam Hickman, and Brannon Huntley. Mrs. Hickman was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Hickman, grandson, Jeffrey Hickman, sister, Bertha Bullard, and brothers, Robert Lemons, H D Lemons, and Edward Lemons.
