Obie Richard Ellis

Obie Richard Ellis, 93, of Sanford passed away on Friday May 16, 2025. A visitation will be held on Wednesday May 21, 2025, from 5:00-6:30 pm at Calvary United Pentecostal Church. A funeral service will follow at 6:30 pm.

Obie was born in Chatham County to the late Robert Henry Ellis and Ozie Woody Ellis. He was a devoted member of Calvary United Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed gardening, playing horseshoes, checkers, and card games.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Hazel Barber (Ben), Rachel Blalock (Russell), Buck Ellis (Nora Lee), Lynwood Ellis (Carolyn), Bobby Ellis (Dorothy), Billy Ellis (Linda), and brother in laws Billy Holt, and Bill Thomas.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gracie Ellis; children Richard Blakeley (Julie), Julie Davis (Joel), Rachel Ellis, and Rebecca Bean (Robert); grandchildren Ashley Yarborough, Andrew Bouwman, Trey Blakeley, Joei Richardson, Jaydyn Ellis, Brandon Caldwell Jr., and Neamiah Pearson; great grandchild Weston Richardson; and siblings Shirley Thomas, Nancy Beal (Lonnie), Ruby Holt, and Dink Ellis (Frances).
