Nancy Hamm

Nancy Dennis Hamm, 76 of Sanford peacefully passed away Friday November 17, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Monday at St Luke United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery.

Mrs. Hamm was born in Wake Co, daughter of the late Buford Edmond Dennis and Emma Marie Hunsucker Dennis. Nancy was a 1962 graduate of East Carolina University as a voice major with a minor in organ and piano. Most of Nancy’s career was spent teaching music from Selma to Fielddale, VA to Washington, NC, to Wallace, NC and Sanford. She spent many years volunteer teaching in the ESOL program with kids from all over the world.

Nancy loved the time spent with her family and especially time with her grandchildren and volunteering at their schools. She was an adventurer who loved to travel (anywhere\anytime). She was not just a wife, mother, and grandmother, but, a singer, musician, sister, a generous volunteer, and just a sweet lady who always was a lot of fun to be around.

Mrs. Hamm is survived by her husband, Jerry A. Hamm; daughter Macy Hamm, (Olivier Arraou) of Raleigh; son Jerry Hamm II of Sanford; grandchildren, Alexandre Arraou, Hamilton Arraou, Adrian Arraou, Madeleine Grace Hamm, and Dillon Holder; sisters, Carolyn Johnson of Raleigh and Debra Flemming of Faison; brother, George Dennis of Raleigh; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Sunday at Rogers Pickard Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions can be made to Choir Fund at St Luke United Methodist Church, 2916 Wicker St, Sanford, NC 27330.

God strengthens us by giving us the "power beyond what is normal" to make it through each passing day. Psalm 46:1 says: "God is our refuge and strength, a help that is readily found in times of distress". Please accept my sincere condolences. Always remember God loves you and he cares for you! Please except my condolence in the loss of your love one. Phil 4:6, 7 will help you receive the peace of God. John 5:28, 29 gives further assurance Jesus will restore life to those who has died. These are comforting thoughts to look forward to knowing your loved one is in God's memory. Hope this brings comfort.

Nancy was one of my "childhood & neighborhood sweethearts." One of the most sincere & caring friends to know. Always a smile, and a concern for others. God has certainly gained a new angel, and those of us who knew Nancy have lost a wonderful person and classmate.

Nancy was a loving friend of mine since elementary school in Raleigh. We shared such fun memories and were in each others weddings in 1963. She fought long and hard for the last year bravely, and her family is being remembered in our prayers. She was one of the most loving and selfless people I ever knew. I will miss her and especially her laughter.

Dear Family, Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your loved one. During this most difficult time of mourning and grieving your loss may you be comforted beyond measure as you read God's Word the Bible. The time will soon come when death will be no more. (Isaiah 25:8) By means of a resurrection to life many who have died will live again. (Acts 9:36-41) May you have the utmost confidence in all that God promises. (Titus 1:2)
