Myrtle Rae Poe

Myrtle Rae Matthews Poe, 92 of Sanford passed away Wednesday July 7, 2021 peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends. Mrs. Poe was preceded in death by her husband, William C. “Peanut” Poe, her parents, W.S. Matthews and Bertha Baker Matthews; brothers O.T. Sloan Paul Sloan and Sam Matthews Jr; sisters, Geneva Yarborough, Ellen Connolly, and Mary Alice Edwards.

Myrtle Rae was born July 24, 1928, at her family home on Broadway Road. Mrs. Poe was a loving and caring mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Mrs. Poe served proudly as the custodian for 50 plus years of the Church she loved so dearly.

Mrs. Poe is survived by her son Sammy Poe and beloved dog Benji; niece, LaFay Pickard; the O.T. Sloan Jr family; the Hamilton Sloan family; the Paul Sloan family; David, Betty, and Bee and the Ralph Yarborough family.

Funeral services will be held Sunday July 11th at 4:00 pm at Shallow Well Church. The family will greet friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm in the Parlor at Shallow Well Church. A private committal will follow in the Church Cemetery.

The Poe family would like to extend our gratitude to Hospice and their nurses and staff as well as many others for all of their attentiveness and loving care.
