Marie Childress

Marie Briggs Childress, 88 of Sanford passed away Wednesday May 1, 2019. Graveside services will be held at 11:00am Saturday at Buffalo Cemetery.

Mrs. Childress was born in Lee Co, a daughter of the late Ernest Gilbert Lee Briggs and Mattie Pearl Conrad Briggs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson “Scrub” Childress Jr, and her sister, Mary B. Shuford. Mrs. Childress loved spending time at Caswell Beach and, was the longest living member of First Presbyterian Church.

Marie is survived by her sons, Jay Childress (Robin), Tim Childress (Jamie) and Andy Childress, all of Sanford; a brother, Ernest Ray Briggs (Mary Catherine) of Raleigh; Six grandchildren, Chrissy Maginnis (Alex), Katie Smith (Kerry), Jordan Anderson (Gordon), Robert Childress (Olivia), Ryan Childress (Barbara), and Cameron Childress; great grandchildren, Collin Kream, Vivienne Smith, Killian Smith, Briggs Maginnis, Annabelle Smith, Kenan Maginnis, Esther Childress, and Reynolds Maginnis; two step grandchildren, Jessica Voytik, and Alex Voytik.  

The family will receive friends at 1509 Cranberry Lane.
