Mabel Moore

Mabel Godwin Moore 90 passed peacefully on February 13th at home surrounded by family.   A graveside service will be held on February 15th, 1:00 PM at Lee Memory Gardens and a Service of Remembrance at 3:00PM at First Baptist Church.  The family will receive visitors starting at 2:00PM in the Chapel of First Baptist Church and also following the service in the Chapel and at other times at the home of her daughter, Janet Tucker – 400 Calico Ct. Sanford, NC.

Mrs. Moore was born in Lee County the daughter of the late Fred and Rebecca Waddell Godwin.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Edward L. Moore and daughter Sharon Gay Moore, brothers Wilbur “Shorty” Godwin, Owen Godwin, Fred Godwin and Chesteen Godwin; sisters Goldie G. Fuller, Juanita G. Burns and Geneva Godwin.  

Mabel was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, serving as a RA leader, greeter, Communion Committee member, and the Hymns and Hers Choir. She was also a long time member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and loved attending the Saturday night dances at the Enrichment Center where she enjoyed time with friends.  A lot of people in Lee County knew her simply as “THE CAKE LADY”.  She was famous in the area for her coconut and pineapple cakes made with love for hundreds of people and businesses in Lee County.

Mrs. Moore is survived by two daughters, Ann M. Sosne and husband Marc and Janet M. Tucker and husband Jimmy; three sons, Fredric E. Moore and wife Brenda, Steve M. Moore and wife Robin and David B. Moore and wife Jackie; two sisters, Gladys G. Thomas and Lucy G. Maddox.  She was also blessed to have 11 grandchildren; Adam Sosne (Quinn), Megan Sosne, Stephen Wagoner (Angel), Abigail Tucker, Brian Moore (Meriah), Daniel Moore, Jarrod Moore, Josh Moore (Mary Grace), Preston Moore (Alex), Jesse Moore, Jordyn Moore, and 3 great grandchildren, Makenzie Wagoner, Lillian Sosne and Davis Sosne, along with many nieces and nephews who all gave her great joy.
