Laura Grace Rogers Comer entered into eternity on November 23, 2025, surrounded by family in her home.
She joyfully celebrated her 100th birthday on July 13th, 2025, in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church of Sanford where she attended church from her birth until age three. On October 18,1936 she made a profession of faith and joined Cameron Baptist Church where she was a member for eighty-nine years. Since Covid-19, she enjoyed televised worship services from Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C. After high school, she attended Mars Hill College and King's Business College in Raleigh, N.C. Before she was married, she worked on Fort Bragg in the personnel department.
During her century on this earth, her genuine love for others deeply touched the lives of her family, church family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers, and everyone that was blessed to know her. At her church, she served in the WMU (Women's Missionary Union), in the nursery, teaching young children, was a Girls in Action leader, and attended a bible study for many years. In her community, she was a grade mother at Greenwood High School baking delicious cupcakes for children as well as working at the Cameron School cafeteria, Grace Christian School cafeteria, and other retail stores in Sanford. For years, she enjoyed her fellowship in the White Hill Home Demonstration Club and her class reunions from the Cameron High School graduating class of 1943. She chose to live a simple life and was content spending time with her family and making memories. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great and great great grandmother. While raising her five children, she farmed tobacco with her husband for 36 years in both Moore and Lee Counties and was a master at canning vegetables and cooking amazing meals. Along with her sisters-in-law, she made quilts for each of her children in addition to crocheting beautiful afghans for each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Her faithful relationship with Jesus along with the love of His word was her compass in life. The proclamation of God’s goodness was perpetually on her lips, and she took seriously living out the command to “love your neighbor as yourself.” She loved her Lord and was ready to meet him face to face. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman in how she lived her life.
She loved others in thought, in word, and in deed which was constantly demonstrated. Surely only the Lord knows how many meals, pound cakes, and pecan pies she made and shared in her lifetime. Beyond her thoughtfulness and acts of service, she had the extraordinary gift of making everyone feel special by being such an encourager. Her legacy of love will undoubtedly transcend into eternity.
