Joanne Muir Beecroft Hamilton

Joanne Muir Beecroft Hamilton, 88, of Sanford passed away on July 24, 2026.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday July 30, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church at 11am. The family will receive friends following the service in the Harper Center.

Joanne was born in Newport News City, Va, June 22nd, 1938, to the late Dr. Morris and Rosalind Beecroft. She was married and had two sons, Matthew and Mark. The family lived in Virginia, Georgia, and Florida prior to moving to Sanford. She became a teacher in the Lee County School System where she taught second grade for 28 years. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church, an avid choir member, and an accompanist for the youth choirs. She served as a Deacon, an Elder, and was recently made an Elder Emeritus. She was also awarded Lifetime Membership. In addition to her church work and her teaching, she was a member of The Footlight Players, the Festival Singers of Lee County, and the Perian Literary Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Morris B. Beecroft Jr.

She is survived by her sons Matthew Beecroft Hamilton and wife Heidi and Mark Monroe Hamilton and wife Trish; grandson Matthew B. Hamilton Jr; step grandchildren, Katie Smith (Kerry), Jordan Anderson (Gordon), Ryan Childress (Barbara), and 5 step great-grandchildren.
