Joan Loyd Baker

July 3, 1934 — August 9, 2021

Joan Loyd Baker, 87 of Sanford passed away Monday August 9, 2021. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00am Thursday at Harnett Memorial Park, Lillington.


Mrs. Baker was born in Louisburg, NC, daughter of the late Henry Edward Loyd and Mary Etta Clayton Loyd. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hughie Edsol Baker and her son, Gary David Baker and his wife Tammy, grandson Benjamin Hamilton. Also, preceded in death by siblings, Buck Loyd, Kenneth Loyd, Nancy Lucas, Frank Loyd and Garland Loyd.

Joan grew up on a tobacco farm in Harnett Co. Her husband was a career Air Force man and she traveled the world with him until their retirement. In 1998 she moved to Sanford and became a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church, the Lois Sutphin Sunday School Class and the Joy Group.

Mrs. Baker is survived by daughters, Rhonda B. Hamilton (Linwood) of Raleigh and Michelle B. Mace (Patrick) of Sanford; grandchildren, Lenny Hamilton (Melissa), Jonathan Baker (Allison) and Kevin Baker (Amanda), Lydia Mace; great grandchildren, Kayla Hamilton, Dayton Hamilton, Riley Baker, Kaitlyn Baker, Lane Baker and Eli Baker.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00pm Wednesday at Rogers Pickard Funeral Home.
