Jimmy Marshall Bass

Jimmy “Jim” Marshall Bass of Sanford, NC, departed his earthly home with family by his side and entered his eternal heavenly home on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the age of 86.

Jim was born in Orrum, NC in Robeson County on March 31, 1937, to the late Marshall Guilford Bass and Cora Lutie Walters Bass. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Geraldine Altman, Joe Bass and Dilys Stowell; granddaughters Carmin Ziblay and Leah Penny.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sara Grace Dent Bass, his daughter Melissa Reynolds (Marty); his sisters Grace Britt, Becky Fain and Jane Holt; his grandchildren Deanna Ziblay, Taylor Reynolds, Caleb Reynolds (Hannah), Drew Reynolds and Katie Reynolds; he was blessed with numerous great grandchildren.

Jim was a veteran of the US Army serving in the late 1950s through the early 1960s during the Cold War.  He worked as a Technical Engineer in the textile industry until his retirement.

Jim loved the Lord and His wonderful creations - the land, the waters. He was an experimental gardener who was referred to by his family as “Jimmy Appleseed.” Everything he touched grew magnificently. He loved the waters and always desired to be near them with a fishing pole in hand. Jim was such an inspiring role model for us - a family man who was an inventor, a visionary. Jim was a very kind and compassionate man who never thought twice about helping others. He was a great man and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at Tramway Baptist Church, 2401 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Sanford, NC on Sunday, June 25 at 2:00 pm.
