If you were to look up the phrase "Southern Gentleman," you just might find Gilbert Matthew's photo. We also found that when Gilbert spoke, he was worth listening to. He will surely be missed by his family and his community. Our condolences to the family.

Gilbert was the best man I ever farmed for in all my years of farming tobacco. He was a very even tempered man and never saw him get angry. I'm sure I did things that made him mad, but he never told me. He will be greatly missed.

Mr Gilbert was one of the most kindest people you would ever meet! I rented a house from him for over a year. He checked on me weekly. He made sure I was always safe. Thank you Mr. Gilbert for being an example of a Godly person. You will truly be missed. Prayers lifted for the family.
