David Lee Stout

David Lee Stout, 84 of Sanford, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2026, at home after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 8th at St Luke United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends at the Church Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 pm.

Mr. Stout was born in Durham, a son of the late Mack Stout and Lina Lee Spence Stout. He was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Stout (Jane). He was a longtime active member of St Luke United Methodist Church where he also sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. After retirement from a 40-plus year career as a civil engineer, David volunteered with Highway to Healing, Meals on Wheels, and Red Cross blood drives. He was an avid Wolfpack fan and a graduate of NC State, where he played football.

Mr. Stout is survived his wife of 60 years, Kay Kennett Stout; a daughter, Amy Kennett Stout (Edward Pettus); and a son, David Lee Stout, Jr.
