High Point

Charles Edward Martin, 93, of High Point, formerly of Sanford, NC passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Brookdale Skeet Club in High Point.

Charles was born in Montgomery County, a son of Charles H. Martin and Mary Wright Martin.  The middle of three sons, he grew up in Wadeville, NC on the family farm, and graduated from Montgomery High School where he played football and baseball.   He attended Mars Hill Junior College and went on to attend and graduate from N.C.State, where he met Martha at an ice cream booth at the N.C. State Fair in 1951.  They were married on February 22, 1953, just before Charles served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Europe.

Charles worked extensively in the poultry industry with several companies as manager of their growing operations and retired from Allen's Poultry. He was the past president of the NC Poultry Federation, the Sanford Lions Club, and served two terms on the NC Agricultural Foundation.  He also worked with several county agricultural offices where he enjoyed helping the 4H Clubs.

Charles was a very active member of First Baptist Church in Sanford, where he served as deacon, and was a longtime, faithful member, and supporter of church activities.  He particularly enjoyed gathering with his church friends to celebrate holidays, special events and travel to the beach or mountains. He and Martha were avid N.C. State fans and season ticket holders for Wolfpack football for many years.  He enjoyed reading his Wolfpacker magazine and they traveled long distances with friends over the years to support N.C. State.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Martha Stallings Martin, and his son Steven Charles Martin.  He is survived by his daughter Marlene M. Wright (Shane) of High Point; three grandchildren, Bradley Wright, Blaire Weavil and Stewart Wright, 4 grandchildren, and his brother Dr. William M. Martin of Hendersonville, NC.

His Memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Sanford, NC on Sunday May 19, 2024 at 2:00pm.
