Carolyn Louise Cooper

February 2, 1937 — July 11, 2016

Carolyn Louise Cooper (February 2, 1937- July 11, 2016 ) 79 of Sanford died at her home.  She was the daughter of Ruth Geneva Shackelford Cooper and Olin Vernon Cooper of Horry County (Conway), SC.  She was the sister of BV Cooper (Shirley) of Chapel Hill, NC.

She graduated from Furman University with a major in French.  For 27 years, she was a teacher in private and public schools in SC and NC.

Carolyn was a life-long learner.  She read voraciously and some of her most satisfying moments came when she was engaged in learning and reading.  She loved Furman University and often said that those four years were among the happiest in her life.

She enjoyed her time as a teacher, spending time investing in the minds, hearts and souls of her students.  She loved teaching French because as she said, the French language embodies more than just language. One must know a language’s culture: the food, the literature, the music, the art and the history, in order to truly know the language.  She taught the whole language and the whole child. Teaching was her métier.

Throughout Carolyn’s life, she exhibited the highest standards: integrity, honesty, respect, honor and most importantly, a true and deep devotion to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Although she endured hardships in this life, she never lost faith that one day, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:4.

She had five children:  Blair Kendall Ivey, Paul Eric Ivey, Starr Adair Ivey, Paige Lenore Ivey and Anne Amoret Ivey Slough (Brett).  Three grandchildren: Angel Ivey, Cooper and Sean Slough. Her greatest desire was for her children and grandchildren to be healthy and happy and “good” people. The greatest compliment she could give someone was that they were a “good” person.
