A native of Morganton, NC Ann was the daughter of the late Lannie Eugene Smith and Willie McGimpsy Smith. Ann graduated from Morganton High School and was known for her enthusiasm as a cheerleader. Ann and Ned were married in 1952 and shortly thereafter Ann followed him to various bases during his enlistment in the United States Air Force. Later, she traveled across NC in pursuit of Ned’s passion for education as a Principal. At home Ann was known for her cooking, sewing, knitting, reading and wrangling three rambunctious boys that kept her away from her hobbies… except for cooking.
