Ann Greene Hodges of Sanford passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, November 29, 2023, at Cambridge Hills in Pittsboro, NC.  Born February 20, 1941, in Chevy Chase, Maryland, she was the daughter of James Francis and Ann Fontaine Smith Greene. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Henry “Rusty” Latham Hodges Jr, her brothers, James Francis Greene Jr. and William “Billy” Witcher Greene.

 

Hodges graduated from Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia and began her teaching career in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After marriage, she and Rusty moved to Columbia, SC and started their family. Ann and Rusty moved to Sanford, North Carolina in 1976 and she taught for many years with the Lee County School System where she touched the lives of countless students.

 

A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2023, conducted by Rev. Eddie Hill.

 

She is survived by her children, Henry “Hank” Latham Hodges III and wife Ashley of Charlotte and Katherine “Katie” Hodges Harris and husband Buck of Sanford. In addition, she is survived by four grandchildren, Jackson Blount Hodges, Wyatt Presley Hodges, Katherine “Kylie” Eileen Hodges, Katherine “Kack” Harding Harris and step grandson William Manon Harris.  She is also survived by a host of loving nieces and nephews.

 

The family would like to thank her devoted friends and many caregivers at Cambridge Hills Memory Care as well as the angels at Gentiva Hospice.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Gentiva Hospice, 1836 Doctors Drive, Sanford, NC 27330; or the charity of one’s choice.
