Alsie “Jean” Comer Marsh, 89, of Sanford passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025. A graveside service will be held at Cameron Church Cemetery on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 3:30pm with a funeral to be held following at 4:30pm Circle M City, 74 Cowboy Lane, Sanford, NC 27330. The family will receive friends following the funeral for a reception at Circle M City.
Jean was born in Cameron to the late Luther Frank Comer and Minnie Florence Bailey Comer. She attended Cameron High School where she was an All-County Basketball Player. She did not consider a game well played if she had not fouled out during a game. She was great at many things. She was an excellent seamstress, cook, and gardener. She taught her daughter how to sew at a young age and would freeze and can fresh vegetables from family gardens.
Jean attended UNC-Greensboro and had a career as a bookkeeper. Jean later studied six college-level Bible courses. Her deep unfaltering love for her church and for God led her to serve at her church’s nursery, in Sunday School classes, as treasurer, as a counselor, as a prayer warrior, as part of the worship team, in food ministry at the pantry and in leadership positions in homebound, rest home, and street ministries. She also served in Prisons ministry for over 12 years by visiting the Lee County jail weekly. She wrote a booklet titled “Are you too Spiritually Starved? Get Ready for the Journey of Your Life – Right Now!” that she would provide for the jailed women. Her time dedicated to helping others and serving the Lord led her to being awarded “The Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award” in recognition of her 4,000 hours of volunteer service and “The President’s Volunteer Service Award” -GOLD- by AmeriCorps for her volunteer service.
Jean was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister in faith, and friend to many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Dorothy Thomas, Frank Comer Jr., Peggy Jordan, Ann Lambert, Mary Ruth Deese, and Carl Comer.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years Dwight Monroe Marsh; children Rhonda Marsh Lee (Michael) and Timothy Marsh (Michelle); grandchildren Patrick Lee, Ryan Lee, and Shane Marsh; step grandchildren Stephanie Lane, Nicole Calise, and Lathan Lane; step great- grandchild Atlas Lane; sister Judy Comer Loving (Tommy); and many nieces and nephews.
