The Piano Brothers

Clingman Obarr Woolard, 95, of 415 Woolard Rd., died Friday, 5-19-17 at his home.

Born June 20, 1921 to John F. Woolard and Lessie Powers Woolard, he was the third of seven children, all of whom predeceased him.

He, with his brother, became responsible for supporting their mother and five sisters when their father died in 1937 and they lost their family farm to the reversals of the Great Depression.

After graduating from Sanford High School, he worked on the Norfolk Southern railroad and grew tobacco and cotton before serving in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman in Germany after World War II. He also worked in auto body repair, was a field agent for Farm Service in the emerging Chatham County poultry industry in the 1950s, and was a cattle rancher for over 60 years.

He was a Sunday School teacher for decades, a dedicated member of his church, and a dependable neighbor in his community.

He is survived by his wife Margie Paschal Woolard and sons Lane (Donna) and Jon Woolard of Carbonton.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 21, from 6 to 8 pm at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be Monday, May 22, at 2 pm at Carbonton Methodist Church with Pastor Jack Phillips.
